Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly no interest in securing the signing of Barcelona forward Memphis Depay despite rumours of an offer.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are not planning a move to sign Barcelona and Netherlands forward Memphis Depay in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Depay signed for Barcelona last summer, joining on a free transfer after his contract with Lyon had run down. The 28-year-old started the season with a bang, scoring several important goals. However, his form soon faded, and he also picked up an injury in early December, which sidelined him until late February.
Depay has been in good nick since returning from his injury ordeal. However, with Barcelona signing Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traore in January, the Dutch international has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou. Once Ansu Fati returns to action, the former Manchester United man will struggle for game-time even more.
So, an exit in the summer looks like a definite possibility for Depay, especially with Barcelona looking to sign a new forward. And Tottenham had emerged as a suitor for the 28-year-old.
Indeed, reports had indicated that the north London outfit had become the front-runners to sign Depay from Barcelona and had even lodged an offer to secure his signing in the upcoming transfer window.
A move for the forward made a great deal of sense amid question marks over the future of Harry Kane. The England captain is again linked with an exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Furthermore, Steven Bergwijn could be sold in the summer, which would weaken the depth in the attacking department at the north London outfit.
In such a scenario, signing a player like Depay would be a welcome move, despite his past struggles in the Premier League during his time at Manchester United. However, as per the report, Tottenham have no interest whatsoever in signing the 28-year-old Dutchman. A club source has informed Football Insider that the forward is not on the Lilywhites’ radar as things stand.
A move to Tottenham might not materialise, but an exit in the summer is still likely for Depay. The Barcelona ace, valued at £35 million, is also on the radars of Napoli and could end up moving to Serie A.
