Sergio Gomez has reportedly emerged as a target for Barcelona, with the Blaugrana viewing the Spanish under-21 international as a successor for Jordi Alba.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sergio Gomez is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish under-21 international has emerged as a viable option to succeed Jordi Alba in the long-term future.
Sergio Gomez has found a stable footing in his career in the last two and a half years. The 21-year-old spent his formative years with Barcelona before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2018. But the move to Dortmund did not work out either, and he first excelled during his loan stint with SD Huesca.
The player’s stock has skyrocketed further since joining Anderlecht last summer, and he has amassed six goals and 14 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. Gomez’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Barcelona, setting their sights on the Spanish under-21 international.
Barcelona could enter the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window as Jordi Alba is approaching the final phase of his glittering career. While the veteran Spaniard has been resurgent under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez, the fact that he is well into his thirties will not be lost on the Barcelona boss.
With Alejandro Balde yet to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at Camp Nou, signing a new left-back could be the way forward for the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window. To that end, several players have emerged on Barcelona’s radar, including Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.
Gomez is also a viable target for Barcelona, with the 21-year-old possibly being a long-term solution on the left side of the defence. And the Spanish under-21 international even commented on the possibility of rejoining Barcelona, hinting he would be open to returning to the Catalan club.

As for Barcelona’s pursuit, the interest appears to be in the early stages, and it will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants seriously pursue a move to re-sign the Spanish under-21 international.
