Leeds United favourites to sign Brenden Aaronson

Leeds United remain the front-runners in the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg talent Brenden Aaronson, who could cost around €25-30 million.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has tweeted an update on the future of Brenden Aaronson. The Red Bull Salzburg playmaker remains keen on leaving the club in the summer amid interest from Leeds United.

The Premier League outfit have retained their interest in Aaronson despite having offers rejected during the January transfer window. They are in the driver’s seat to seal the player’s signature in the summer, with Salzburg valuing their talented asset at around €25-30 million.

A native of Medford, New Jersey, Aaronson has lit up the Austrian Bundesliga since his move from Philadelphia Union at the start of last year. In just 60 competitive appearances, the youngster has bagged 12 goals while assisting 15 times. His contributions in the final third have helped Salzburg retain their dominance over Austrian football.

The 21-year-old is also a prominent figure in the USMNT, having already earned 18 caps for his country. The playmaker has made quite an impression with his exceptional close control and the ability to create chances in the final third.

Leeds United were keen on securing Aaronson’s services in January. And after hiring Jesse Marsch as the head coach, one could argue their interest has only intensified, despite being rejected by Salzburg multiple times in the winter transfer window.

Marsch was the one to bring Aaronson to Salzburg in the first place. Under his tutelage, the 21-year-old made his European breakthrough, being involved in ten goals in 21 league matches last season.

As the former RB Leipzig coach prepares for a new challenge at the Elland Road, he is keen on shoring up his options in the creative department. It is no secret that Leeds United are bracing themselves for the exit of Raphinha. The Brazilian is even close to agreeing personal terms with Barcelona, whereas Rodrigo Moreno has not been consistent enough.

It has accentuated the need for a new playmaker who can offer the creative output in the final third. Aaronson fits the bill well due to his qualities in the final third. However, it remains to be seen whether Leeds United are open to meeting Salzburg’s €25-30 million valuation for the American international, especially given the club’s financial shortcomings.
