Lazio demand €80 million for Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be allowed to leave Lazio in the summer if interested clubs such as Manchester United pay up the €80 million asking price.

According to Il Messaggero (h/t FCInter 1908), Lazio could allow Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to depart the club if potential suitors pay the €80 million asking price during the summer window. The Serbian midfielder has been on the radars of multiple clubs, including Manchester United.

It’s not unusual to see Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s name appear in the same line as Manchester United, as the club have been long linked with the Serbian midfielder. A move has never materialised owing to various factors, including Lazio’s high asking price.

However, there are indications from Lazio that Milinkovic-Savic might finally be ready for a departure, and their fans might be seeing the very last of the talented midfielder. The 27-year-old has refused to sign a new deal, as his agent looks for a better career path for his client.

Lazio are aware of the widespread interest in their midfielder and hence are demanding €80 million to let him leave. They cite the two years Milinkovic-Savic will have on his contract after the current season and the value he still has within Maurizio Sarri’s setup as the reasons for their demands.

The Italian manager has used Milinkovic-Savic 39 times during this season, highlighting the midfielder’s importance at Lazio. They are hoping to use the funds to bring in recruits in the summer, pinning their hopes on teams such as Manchester United to pay the requested sum.

Milinkovic-Savic has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and this could be the year he may make the jump. Manchester United remain interested in the Serbian midfielder and could explore the chance to bring him to England. They are currently focusing their efforts on appointing a permanent manager and could then switch towards bringing in players to the new manager’s liking.

Hence, if their new manager green-lights a transfer for Milinkovic-Savic, then the club could look to negotiate a fee and come to an agreement over a reasonable sum. Manchester United are also keeping their options open, as they remain linked with Marco Verratti among other players as they look to shore up their midfield options with Paul Pogba likely to leave.

Milinkovic-Savic could excel at Old Trafford and give his peak years towards the club’s success. He could also look to continue his career in Italy, with Inter Milan supposedly interested in the midfielder.

It will be a tricky summer for Lazio and Milinkovic-Savic. However, the Italian side may have to lower their expectations regarding a transfer fee as the €80 million asking price may force Manchester United to look for alternatives to the Serbian.
