Barcelona and Manchester City could make a move for Nabil Fekir after being impressed by the French international’s performances for Real Betis this season.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona have identified Nabil Fekir as the ideal player to come in if some of their star names depart in the summer window. The Blaugrana have been impressed by the French international’s performances this term, which has helped Real Betis in rising up the table.

Real Betis have joined the usual big guns in La Liga by putting in a concerted effort to finish in the European places this season. The Andalusian giants are just below fourth-placed Atletico Madrid and still very much in the race to finish in the top four.

Much of the credit should go to individual player performances, and one of their pivotal figures is Nabil Fekir. The Frenchman has been instrumental with several crucial goal involvements in the league this season. His improved displays led to Betis offering him a new deal until June 30, 2026 with a release clause of €100 million.

That may be too much for any club to spend on a 28-year-old, but interested parties could still look at the Frenchman and negotiate a reduced price. Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing the attacking midfielder and could consider a move if some present players leave in the summer.

Frenkie de Jong has reiterated his intention to stay, but with Riqui Puig facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, a spot in the Barcelona midfield could open up. Alternatively, Fekir could replace Ousmane Dembele in the Barcelona squad, considering he can play out wide as well.

Premier League clubs are also interested in the French international, and he may make a move if the right offer comes in. Meanwhile, at Barcelona, several midfielders have popped up on their radar, and they have reportedly held talks with Paul Pogba, who could be available on a free transfer.

Fekir could be the alternate option as the Manchester United midfielder is generating plenty of interest. The Real Betis playmaker has extensive experience in Spain and could prove a readymade player for Barcelona’s needs. But the big sticking point could be the €100 million release clause.

Barcelona have plenty of ongoing financial troubles, which have eased in recent months. However, paying €100 million for a 28-year-old may prove problematic and the Blaugrana may consider heavily negotiating to bring the price down.

Manchester City are also interested in Fekir, as Pep Guardiola might like to add a creative presence to the team. The Premier League champions could look to sign him, particularly if Bernando Silva leaves the club in the summer. The Portuguese international has been linked with Real Madrid lately.

Despite their deep pockets, Manchester City might not be willing to pay up the €100 million release clause. Like Barcelona, they, too, might look to reduce the asking price, although they do not doubt the player’s talents. Joining the Catalans or the Citizens will be seen as an upgrade for Fekir, who may demand a move if an approach is made. .
