Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly set to go head to head in the race to sign 16-year-old Rangers sensation Rory Wilson.

According to a report from Daily Star, Rangers are bracing themselves for a myriad of raids from top English clubs for Rory Wilson. The 16-year-old attacker has become one of the most sought-after prospects in Scotland after making waves in the Scottish youth leagues.

Although Rangers have offered Wilson a professional deal, the player remains keen on leaving Scotland in the summer. He wants to move to England in an attempt to further his career, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool among the clubs keen on securing his services in the new season.

A centre forward by trade, Wilson has netted 40 goals for Rangers’ youth side this season. At the age of just 16, he has mesmerised the onlookers with his goalscoring prowess, coupled with his dynamism and energy in the final third, essentially making him one of the most in-demand young players in the country.

The youngster’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with the majority of top English clubs recently scouting him in Scotland’s Under-17 matchup against Czech Republic’s Under-17 this week.

All three of these aforementioned clubs have developed a solid reputation for nurturing budding youngsters. Liverpool, for one, already have one of the best Scottish players in Andrew Robertson and have an exciting pool of youngsters coming through the ranks, including Curtis Jones.

Manchester United, too, have given youngsters like Marcus Rashford the opportunity to come through the ranks in recent years. With Ralf Rangnick at the helm, there could be a greater emphasis on the development of young players, so it is hardly surprising that the Red Devils have expressed interest in Rory Wilson, along with his fellow Scottish sensation Aaron Hickey.

Manchester City have not had as much success when it comes to integrating youth players into the first team. But they have an excellent youth setup with word-class facilities that has developed talents such as Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden, among many others.

Rory Wilson, to that end, could be an exciting addition to any of these three teams, given the talent he has shown at Rangers youth this term. At the age of just 16, the Scot has a long way to go before he can be considered for professional football, but he certainly has what it takes to become one of the best players for his country, especially if he joins Liverpool, Manchester City or Manchester United.
