FC Porto lining up Cristiano Ronaldo swoop

FC Porto are e eyeing an ambitious summer swoop for Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

According to a report from Football Insider, FC Porto have set their sights on a shock move for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese giants are closely monitoring the situation of the Manchester United superstar. They are increasingly confident that the star forward may consider a return to his homeland in the summer amid ongoing struggles at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United last summer after putting an end to his spell at Juventus. He was brought in to add that goalscoring spark upfront for a club that was already looking strong, following the acquisitions of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

However, as we head towards the final phase of the campaign, things have not necessarily worked out well for Ronaldo. While the Portuguese legend has still scored 18 goals in all competitions, he has been left disappointed with Manchester United’s performances, with the club embroiled in a top-four race rather than the Premier League title.

Manchester United have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup as well, thus leading to speculation surrounding Ronaldo’s future at the club. Recent reports even suggest the Portuguese international is open to a move to Paris Saint-Germain next season and put an end to his misery at Old Trafford.

However, PSG are not the only club interested in securing the services of Ronaldo, as FC Porto are also hoping to land him in the new season. While the Portuguese giants are nowhere near capable of offering a similar financial package as PSG, they expect the Ronaldo to settle for a pay cut to return to his homeland.

Before his initial move to Manchester United in 2003, Ronaldo had played for two Portuguese clubs in Nacional and Sporting CP. He made his breakthrough at Sporting, a direct rival of FC Porto and the current champions of Portugal.

It is quite ambitious on Porto’s part to expect Ronaldo to join a direct rival of his beloved Sporting. But at the age of 37, the legendary forward could be open to new challenges as he heads into the final phase of his decorated career.

At the same time, Ronaldo’s prolonged stay at Old Trafford cannot be ruled out. The striker is known to be a fighter, and he will try everything to help Manchester United improve in the next season in an attempt to end his chapter at Old Trafford on a positive note.
