Divock Origi hopeful of joining AC Milan

AC Milan are reportedly moving one step closer towards securing the deal to sign Liverpool frontman Divock Origi this summer.

According to MilanNews.it journalist Antonio Vitiello, AC Milan are closing in on the capture of Divock Origi. The Liverpool forward has emerged as a top target for the Serie A outfit as they look to shore up their goalscoring options in the coming summer.

The report suggests Milan could soon finalise an agreement with Origi, with the player himself confident of a move to San Siro in the summer. Liverpool are powerless in preventing the transfer as the striker’s current deal at Anfield expires at the end of the season.

Formerly of Wolfsburg, Origi has been on the radar of Milan for quite some now. Although the Belgian has not been able to establish himself as a first-team regular for Liverpool, his cameos off the bench and ability to score goals in crunch situations have helped him earn quite a reputation for being a super-sub.

The Rossoneri, though, have greater plans with the 26-year-old, especially with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud currently in the final phases of their respective careers. Not to mention, the Serie A giants are facing a battle to keep hold of Rafael Leao, who has curiously emerged as a potential target for Liverpool.

The uncertain future of several star forwards has accentuated the need for reinforcements in the goalscoring department. Divock Origi, to that end, fits the bill perfectly due to his vast experience at the highest level of football. He is also a hard worker on the pitch and can settle in seamlessly with Stefano Pioli’s tactical setup.

While majorly operating as a super-sub under Jurgen Klopp, it is no secret that the Belgian has what it takes to start games for Milan due to his ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities. At the age of just 26, the Liverpool forward has time on his side as well and the room to further hone his skills as a goalscorer.

What makes Origi such an appealing target for the Serie A heavyweights, though, is his contract situation. Signing him for a free transfer could indeed prove to be a bargain for a Milan side experiencing a financial crisis and could be forced to target cost-effective alternatives in the summer.
