Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing 22-year-old Spanish left-back Fran Garcia, who could leave Rayo Vallecano in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Fran Garcia could become a hot property in the market heading into the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old Rayo Vallecano left-back is a key target for Barcelona and Real Madrid, with Atletico Madrid also hot on his trail.
Fran Garcia has found a stable footing in his career since moving to Rayo Vallecano from Real Madrid. The Spanish defender initially joined Los Franjirrojos on a loan deal for the 2020/21 season before completing a permanent transfer to Estadio de Vallecas last summer.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign thus far, amassing one goal and one assist in 31 appearances across all competitions. And Garcia’s exploits for Rayo Vallecano have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona and Real Madrid looking to secure his services in the summer transfer windows.
The interest from Real Madrid stems from the situation surrounding Marcelo, with the veteran Brazilian left-back set to depart from the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent in the summer transfer window. And with Miguel Gutierrez not managing to convince Carlo Ancelotti, signing a left-back is the need of the hour for Real Madrid.
Garcia is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos reserving 50 per cent of his rights, which makes him an economic capture. But the Merengues face stiff competition from arch-rivals Barcelona in the pursuit of the 22-year-old Spanish left-back.
Like Real Madrid, Barcelona will need to delve into the transfer market for a left-back in the summer transfer window amid the advancing years of Jordi Alba. While the Spaniard has been in resurgent form under Xavi Hernandez, he is approaching the final phase of his career, meaning a new left-back will be a welcome addition for Barcelona, with Sergio Reguilon among their targets.

Apart from Barcelona and Real Madrid, reigning Spanish champions Atletico Madrid could also vie for Garcia’s signature in the summer transfer window. Rayo Vallecano will thus have a battle at hand to keep hold of the 22-year-old, who could be set for a big transfer ahead of the 2022/23 season.
