PSG battle Liverpool, Real Madrid for Aurelien Tchouameni

Chelsea step up interest in £40 million-rated Liverpool target

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to rival Liverpool and Real Madrid in the race to sign AS Monaco midfield mainstay Aurelien Tchouameni.

According to Foot Mercato, PSG are the latest club to express an interest in securing the services of AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who is also a target for Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Tchouameni burst onto the scenes at boyhood club Bordeaux before making the switch to Monaco in January 2020. After a fairly quiet start to life with the Principality outfit, the young midfielder enjoyed a stunning 2020/21 season and forced his way into the French national setup, with whom he won the UEFA Nations League last year.

Tchouameni is enjoying another fine campaign with Monaco, and his development has caught the attention of several top clubs across Europe, including PSG, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

PSG are preparing for a change of guard after yet another embarrassing exit from the UEFA Champions League. With Idrissa Gueye and Ander Herrera not impressing consistently, and Georginio Wijnaldum expected to depart at the end of the season, the Ligue 1 giants will need reinforcements in the midfield department, making Tchouameni a viable target.

However, they will likely face competition from Premier League heavyweights Liverpool, who are long-term admirers of the French international. The Reds did not replace Wijnaldum upon his exit last year, while they need to start planning for their future with the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara on the wrong side of their thirties.

A powerful midfielder like Tchouameni could slot in well into Jurgen Klopp’s system and become a core team member for years to come. To that end, Liverpool have already lodged an enquiry to find out his potential availability at the end of the season.

Real Madrid have also been heavily linked with a move for Tchouameni for quite some time now. Considering that they lack a proper alternative for Casemiro in the holding midfield position, the 22-year-old can offer a solution to the La Liga title contenders before eventually replacing the Brazilian as the first-choice enforcer in the starting XI.

Chelsea are also believed to be keen admirers of the French international but given their current predicament due to the sanctions placed by the UK Government, and a transfer is not on the cards at the moment.

Monaco, for their part, will demand at least €50 million for Tchouameni, which should not be a problem for any of the clubs mentioned above. So, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this exciting race to sign the French midfield sensation in the summer transfer window.
