AS Roma are reportedly ready to rival AC Milan in the race to sign Liverpool’s wantaway forward Divock Origi this summer.

According to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool are bracing themselves for the exit of Divock Origi. The Belgian forward has no future at Anfield despite becoming a cult hero at Anfield, and it appears he could be set for a move to Serie A next season, amid interest from two Italian giants.

AC Milan’s pursuit of Origi has been well-documented already, with the Rossoneri keen on signing a new striker to add to their ageing goalscoring department. But they are expected to face stiff competition from AS Roma, who have identified Origi as one of their top targets in the summer transfer window.

It appears the Giallorossi are unsure of their attacking depth, especially amid uncertainties over the long-term future of Nicolo Zaniolo. The Italian international has been linked with Tottenham and Newcastle United ahead of the summer, which could leave a massive void in the club’s offensive unit.

There are also rumours surrounding the future of Carles Perez, who has been identified as the desired replacement for Moussa Diaby, who, in turn, could be set for a move to Premier League.

Roma, therefore, are prepared to enter the market to sign an accomplished forward like Origi. The Belgian offers vast experience at the highest level of football, which could come in handy in helping Jose Mourinho restore the club’s lost glory. Origi can also offer the winning mentality, having enjoyed UEFA Champions League, Premier League and even Carabao Cup success during his time at Anfield.

But with Milan also involved in the chase, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Belgian international. There is no question that Origi’s status as a free agent in the summer makes him an appealing target for these two Italian teams. And in the end, a lot could depend on the player himself.

Liverpool, for their part, are preparing for life without Origi as well. They have been linked with a summer swop for Alexander Isak, with the Reds even reportedly tabling a whopping €70 million offer, which is quite intriguing given how the club have so far refrained from meeting Mohamed Salah’s demands for a new contract extension, drawing in fierce criticism from fans and pundits alike.
