Newcastle United plot move for Ugurcan Cakir

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir in the summer to make changes in the position.

According to Fotomac, Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir is on Newcastle United’s radar over a summer move, as Eddie Howe eyes new options between the posts.

Newcastle United are planning a huge summer window after seemingly inching closer towards their primary target of staying put in the Premier League. Their tremendous unbeaten run, which was halted by the loss to Chelsea on Sunday, has taken them clear of the danger zone. Now they will push to finish as high on the table as possible and are already looking forward to the summer window.

Eddie Howe will have a wishlist consisting of players for multiple positions. The club did manage to strengthen significantly in January, but they still need more quality names to elevate their stature to be considered among the league’s elites.

The Magpies have eyes for a marquee name on their list in the form of PSG superstar Neymar. At the same time, Howe is also looking to add more quality to his roster in various positions and is seeking a new striker, a wide player, a defensive midfielder and a goalkeeper.

Their current goalkeeping options in Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow may not be considered top-quality, and the latter could even be sold by the club in the summer, as per a report from The Times. Newcastle will have to bring a new player in the position and have been linked with Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga and Dean Henderson of Manchester United. Now, a new name has been added to their transfer wishlist.

Turkish star Ugurcan Cakir is believed to be on the radars of the Tyneside outfit. The goalkeeper could leave Trabzonspor after seemingly getting closer to achieving his dream of winning the Turkish championship. Trabzonspor are in pole position to clinch the domestic title, as they sit comfortably at the top with 70 points after 29 games. They have opened up a 15-point gap over second-placed Konyaspor.

With his dream of winning the league title inching close towards becoming a reality, the 25-year-old Turkish international could look take the next big step in his career and entertain offers from clubs abroad, especially the Premier League.

Newcastle could look to make an offer in the summer for Cakir, who still has two years left on his deal with Trabzonspor, with the club holding an option to extend it for another season. The Turkish giants are likely to demand a significant fee in return, something the Magpies could pay up if their interest in the keeper is genuine.
