Manchester City are reportedly ready to offer Tottenham Hotspur €140 million to convince them to sell their star striker Harry Kane.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Premier League champions Manchester City are eager to finally ready to complete Harry Kane’s signing after failing in his pursuit last summer. The Citizens are ready to make the England captain the club’s record signing.
Pep Guardiola has long been an admirer of Kane. Manchester City were willing to go all out in his pursuit last summer, but as per Guardiola, “Tottenham didn’t want to talk”. They then proceeded to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, spending a nine-figure sum on the English international to make him their most expensive signing ever.
Kane, too, reportedly wanted the Manchester City move as he believed the time was right to switch to a bigger club and add silverware to his resume. But it did not materialise eventually, with reports even claiming that he refused to train with Spurs – a claim he later outrightly rejected.
Manchester City have long been on the lookout for a striker. They expected Gabriel Jesus to take over the mantle from Sergio Aguero upon the Brazilian’s arrival in January 2017. But he has yet to score 15 league goals in a season in five seasons at the Etihad. His best campaign came in the 2019/20 season when he scored 14 league goals.
In comparison, Aguero scored more than 15 league goals in four of the five seasons he played alongside Jesus even with the Argentine’s powers waning. Though he managed just four league goals in the 2021/22 season, that was largely due to recurring injuries that saw him miss 14 Premier League games.
Following Aguero’s departure to Barcelona in 2021, the need for an out-and-out centre-forward signing is paramount for the club. Kane was identified as an able replacement for the outgoing Aguero last summer, with Manchester City seriously pursuing the England skipper.

But Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy did not entertain any dialogue with the Citizens, refusing to enter talks for Kane’s sale. The 28-year-old will still have two years left on his contract after the ongoing season, so Levy could make things tricky for Manchester City yet again.
