La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder Vitinha from FC Porto.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Vitinha is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Merengues are keen on bolstering their midfield unit ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Vitor Machado Ferreira, better known as Vitinha, is one of Portugal’s most promising young midfielders. He has made significant progress in his career since joining the FC Porto youth setup in 2011. But it was not until returning from an unsuccessful loan spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers that the 22-year-old established a foothold in the first-team squad at Estadio do Dragao.
The Portuguese midfielder has been a regular feature for Porto this season, chipping in with three goals and three assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. And Vitinha’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.
The interest from Real Madrid comes in the wake of rampant uncertainties surrounding the futures of Dani Ceballos and Isco. The two Spanish midfielders will likely depart the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window, with Isco expected to leave as a free agent, as his contract will run out in June.
So signing a central midfielder is of utmost importance for Real Madrid. And the addition of a young midfielder could also help them have a smooth succession plan for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, who are approaching the final phases of their respective careers.
Vitinha has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, who have been closely monitoring his progress for a considerable time. Apart from Vitinha, five other midfielders are high on Real Madrid’s wishlist: Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, Ryan Gravenberch, Florian Wirtz and Corentin Tolisso.
In addition, several other midfielders, including Mohamed Camara, are also on Real Madrid’s radar, so it is clear that the Merengues intend to bolster their midfield this coming summer. As for Vitinha, it remains to be seen if the 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder will join Real Madrid in the summer.
