Arsenal are ready to rival Manchester United in the race to sign Hugo Ekitike, who is valued at around €40 million.
A recent report from But! Football Club has offered an update on the future of Hugo Ekitike. The Reims forward is seemingly becoming one of the most in-demand young strikers in Europe amid interest from a host of top clubs.
While Manchester United’s overtures for the young striker are well documented, it appears they are set to face stiff competition from league rivals Arsenal. The report suggests Ekitike is likely to leave Reims at the end of the season, with the Ligue 1 outfit valuing the youngster at around €40 million.
Having netted ten goals in all competitions this term, Ekitike was one of the major targets for Newcastle United in January. The Magpies were willing to meet Reims’ demands, but the player himself declined a move to St James’ Park.
While Newcastle United remain interested in a swoop for the young Frenchman, Arsenal have also emerged as a potential destination for Ekitike, with the Gunners scouting the exciting prospect.
Given Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure to Barcelona in January and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Alexandre Lacazette, Arsenal are in for a summer of change in the attacking department. They have been credited with an interest in Benfica’s Darwin Nunez as a potential replacement for Aubameyang, but the Uruguayan is set to cost a fortune given his performances in the Champions League.
Ekitike, in that regard, could be an interesting alternative considering his additional physical prowess and speed that complements his tall figure, making him a unique asset in the final third.
Manchester United have already been impressed with the 19-year-old’s profile and intend to make a move in the summer transfer window. Much like Arsenal, the Red Devils are in for a busy window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani, who is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Mason Greenwood’s suspension has also left Manchester United without a reliable striker, potentially opening up a vacancy for someone like Hugo Ekitike. The youngster possesses immense skill and his attributes could be tailor-made for the physical nature of English football. For a fee of just €40 million, the Frenchman could be a bargain for both the English giants.
