Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on a summer move for Torino and Ivory Coast right-back Wilfried Singo.
According to Calciomercato, Torino defender Wilfried Singo is attracting serious interest from the Premier League with bigwigs like Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur considering a summer swoop.
The 21-year-old moved to Torino from his homeland Ivory Coast in January 2019. After spending some time with the club’s Primavera outfit, the defender made his senior breakthrough in the 2020/21 season and has since become a regular fixture on the right side of the backline for the Serie A outfit.
Singo, to date, has featured 63 times for the Granata, scoring five goals and registering seven assists. This season, he has been directly involved in seven goals in 25 Serie A outings. His attacking attributes from the right-back sl0t have seemingly caught the attention of top clubs in England as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham are keeping tabs on the Ivory Coast international.
Arsenal strengthened their right-back slot last summer with Takehiro Tomiyasu. But Mikel Arteta will need to sign a cover for the Japanese international as Cedric Soares is expected to depart at the end of the season. Hector Bellerin, who is on loan at Real Sociedad, is likely to join them permanently. So, they will need a new full-back, one with more attacking flair than Tomiyasu, making Singo a viable target.
Liverpool have Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is widely considered one of the best right-backs in the game, as their first choice in the starting XI. However, there is a lack of quality cover for the England international as Neco Williams has not been able to step up as expected and could leave in the summer. At the same time, Joe Gomez is also linked with an exit. It opens the door for a player like Singo to come in.
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s signing of Emerson Royal from Barcelona last summer has proven to be a bust so far, with the Brazilian misfiring time and again. With Matt Doherty also not performing at the desired levels, Antonio Conte is keen on a new right wing-back. Given how his system requires an attack-minded player in the wide areas, a move for Singo, who has shown great potential, would make sense.
The 21-year-old is contracted with Torino until the summer of 2023, although the Serie A side can extend his stay by another year. But with clubs of this magnitude lining up to sign him, the youngster could have his head turned in the summer, opening the doors for a potential exit.
Apart from Singo, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are looking at West Ham United starlet Ben Johnson, while Middlesbrough loanee Djed Spence is also being looked at as an option by the north London clubs. So, it remains to be seen if their interest in Singo is concrete or if they are looking at him as a fallback option in case moves for their other targets fail.
