Transfer News: Tottenham lead race to sign Alex Scott

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly engaged in a transfer battle with Everton and West Ham United to land Bristol City starlet Alex Scott.

According to Football League World, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are heading a queue of top-flight clubs showing interest in securing the services of Bristol City sensation Alex Scott.

The 18-year-old got his first big break in the senior level with Isthmian League side Guernsey in the 2019/20 campaign. He moved to Bristol City in 2020 and has since gone on to take his talents to a larger audience. Scott has already amassed 32 appearances for the second division outfit despite his tender age, scoring three goals and assisting two more.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Scott can also do a job as a defensive midfielder or on the right. This versatility will hold him in good stead should he move to Tottenham in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Englishman is still just a teenager but displays excellent awareness and maturity for his age. He has slotted into Nigel Pearson’s side with ease and continues to develop with every passing game. There is little reason to believe that he won’t strike it big if he continues along the same trajectory.

Scott’s performances have not gone unnoticed as Premier League clubs are monitoring his progress at Ashton Gate. Apart from Tottenham, Everton, Leicester City, and West Ham United are all interested in the 18-year-old.

Tottenham appear to be right in the mix and have sent senior scout Peter Braund to watch the player in action. The North Londoners seem to be leading the race to land the youngster at this moment in time. Scott is also a Spurs fan, handing the club yet another advantage in the race to secure his services.

What Spurs need is a long-term blueprint to success. Building a team that can compete not just for today but for years to come is key, and Daniel Levy must splash the cash to land the best young prospects. Scott certainly fits that bill and can potentially develop into a first-team regular at N-17 should he receive the proper guidance.

Tottenham missed out on a golden opportunity to land Jack Grealish early on in his career. If they play their cards right, they might very well be able to secure the services of the ‘Guernsey Grealish’ this summer.

However, West Ham United have emerged as serious competitors for a top-six finish in recent times and could challenge Spurs for Scott. This could especially be the case, should they lose Declan Rice as it would offer them the financial boost David Moyes requires to bring in serious reinforcements next summer.

Meanwhile, Everton are in need of a revamp and will do well to focus their attentions on youthful additions. Frank Lampard worked wonders with Mason Mount at Chelsea and there is no reason why he cannot repeat the trick with Scott at Goodison Park.
