Barcelona will reportedly need to fend off competition from Arsenal and Tottenham to sign 25-year-old left-back Angelino from Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Angelino. The 25-year-old left-back is also a target for Barcelona and could leave Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.
Angelino has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from Manchester City in January 2020. The Spaniard initially moved to the German club on a loan deal before completing a permanent switch to the Red Bull Arena last summer.
The 25-year-old has a solid record for Leipzig, having chipped in with ten goals and 24 assists in 84 appearances thus far. But the Bundesliga giants are in a spot of bother over Angelino’s long-term future, with several high profile clubs across Europe keen on signing him in the summer transfer window, including Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
The interest from Barcelona stems from Jordi Alba’s inconsistent performances lately. While the Spanish international has been impressive in the last couple of games, age is starting to catch up with him, thereby necessitating the arrival of a new left-back in the summer transfer window.
As for Arsenal, with recent reports linking Kieran Tierney with Real Madrid, the Gunners will need to be wary of potential poaching from the Spanish giants. So, scouring the transfer market for a left-back could make sense for Arsenal, although the practice will be futile if Tierney stays put at the Emirates.
Meanwhile, Tottenham might be in a similar situation as Arsenal, with Real Madrid considering re-signing the Spaniard. And with Ryan Sessegnon struggling to carve out a place for himself in the first-team setup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs need to look for a possible left-back solution.
Several other clubs have also been linked with Angelino, and the 25-year-old looks likely to leave RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window. But it remains to be seen if Barcelona can keep hold of the former Manchester City defender amid interest from Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham.
