Real Madrid could reportedly go head-to-head with Barcelona in the race to sign Raphael Guerreiro, valued at around €30 million by Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Raphael Guerreiro is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese defender is also a target for Barcelona, with Borussia Dortmund valuing him at around €30 million.

Raphael Guerreiro is widely regarded as one of the best modern-day full-backs in Europe, having gone from strength to strength since joining Borussia Dortmund FC Lorient in July 2016. Over the last five and a half years, the 28-year-old’s stock has risen steadily, and he is now a key figure for club and country.

To date, the Portuguese international has made 180 appearances for Dortmund, chipping in with 34 goals and 35 assists in the process. But the Bundesliga giants are in a spot of bother over the player’s long-term future, as he has entered the final 18 months of his contract. Guerreiro’s situation has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on signing him.

Barcelona had also been linked with Guerreiro in the January transfer window, with their interest growing stronger this month. That is hardly surprising either, considering Jordi Alba has blown hot and cold at an alarming rate in the last couple of years, while Alejandro Balde is yet to settle down in the first-team setup at Camp Nou.

Guerreiro is thus a viable target for Barcelona, with his precarious contract situation making him possibly an affordable option for the Blaugrana. But Barcelona will have to fend off competition from Real Madrid to secure the services of the 28-year-old Portuguese international.

Real Madrid will also enter the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window, as Marcelo will end his glittering stint with them when his contract expires. Marcelo’s departure will open up a spot for a new left-back, especially with Carlo Ancelotti not fancying Miguel Gutierrez much. As a result, several left-backs, including Angelino and Sergio Reguilon, have been linked with Real Madrid lately.

Tothat end, Guerreiro is also a viable target for Real Madrid, with his €30 million price tag unlikely to deter Los Blancos. Barcelona, too, might be able to afford to pay €30 million to snap up the 28-year-old, while Dortmund will be desperate to tie him down to a new contract before the summer transfer window shuts down.
