Crystal Palace are reportedly considering making a move for Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson in the summer transfer window.
According to The Sun, Crystal Palace have their sights set on a swoop for Nottingham Forest and Wales attacker Brennan Johnson in the summer transfer window later this year.
Johnson is a product of the Nottingham Forest youth setup and has been on the club’s books since 2009. The youngster made his first-team debut for the Reds in August 2019, at the age of 18. He spent the last season away on loan at Lincoln City, where he enjoyed a lot of success, scoring 13 goals and setting up 14 more in 48 games.
Back at Nottingham Forest in the summer, Johnson has become an integral part of the team this term. The versatile winger can play on either flank or as a No. 10, or even as a striker. He has featured 33 times across all competitions for the EFL Championship outfit, scoring ten goals in the process.
Johnson’s growth in the second tier of English football has not escaped the sight of Premier League clubs. Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with a move for the winger, who has seven caps for the Welsh national team, while there has been interest from fellow London club Brentford, too.
Crystal Palace have also thrown their hat in the ring for the signing of Johnson in the summer transfer window. The Eagles are sweating over the future of star man Wilfried Zaha. The ex-Manchester United ace will be entering the final year of his contract with the club at the end of the season. If the Ivory Coast international does not renew his deal, Palace are believed to be ready to cash in on him, which would open up a spot in attack.
Johnson has the potential to be a good fit in the scheme of things at Selhurst Park. Patrick Vieira is building a young and vibrant team after taking over from Roy Hodgson, with the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, and Odsonne Edouard set to form the core of the group. And, 20-year-old Johnson could be a good addition to the roster for the south London outfit.
Crystal Palace had been linked with a move for Johnson ahead of the January transfer window, but a move never materialised. But with the Eagles set to renew their interest in the Welshman, a summer switch could be on the cards. With his contract expiring in 2023, Nottingham Forest could also decide to cash in on their prized asset, especially if they miss out on promotion to the Premier League.
