Lautaro Martinez back on Barcelona radar

Inter Milan and Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez is reportedly back on the radar of Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to SPORT, Barcelona have rekindled their interest in Inter Milan superstar Lautaro Martinez as they look to bring in a marquee forward in the upcoming summer window.

Martinez has come a long way since arriving at Inter Milan from Racing Club back in 2018. The 24-year-old has developed into one of the best strikers in the Serie A and played an integral role in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title triumph in the 2020/21 campaign. He has continued where he left off this term, netting 11 goals in 22 league matches, helping his team mount a strong title defence.

Martinez recently signed a new contract with the Italian heavyweights, extending his stay at the club until the summer of 2026. However, Inter Milan’s financial woes mean that a transfer away from San Siro is not entirely off the table before the next season starts. And as per the report, Barcelona are once again considering a move for the Argentina international.

Martinez was on the agenda for Barcelona last summer as they sought to bolster their attack, with club legend and former captain Lionel Messi also recommending the name of the Inter Milan superstar. However, the Catalans were priced out of a move, as the Nerazzurri put a massive €90 million price tag on him.

But with his form declining in recent weeks, reports in Italy indicate that Inter are considering offloading him at the end of the season. It has seemingly alerted Barcelona, who could launch a fresh attempt to sign the 24-year-old in the upcoming summer window.

The Blaugrana are on the lookout for a new marquee striker to lead their attack for years to come and have identified Erling Haaland as their top target. However, the finances involved to bring the Borussia Dortmund superstar to Camp Nou could make things difficult for the club, while recent reports are claiming that Real Madrid are closing in on the capture of the Norwegian.

It would force Barcelona to look for alternatives in the market, with Martinez emerging as one. The report claims that Inter Milan could lower their demands for the Argentine international, paving the way for the Catalan giants to make a swoop. His agent has previously admitted that the 24-year-old would love to play for Barça.

But with there being interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, it now remains to be seen if a move to Camp Nou materialises in the summer.
