Coventry City would have expected a defeat away at Arsenal on the opening night of the Premier League last Friday. While Coventry failed to get anything in their opening game, Sergej Jakirovic’s Hull City did the exact opposite in a morale-boosting win over English giants Manchester United. First-half goals scored by defenders Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy provided Hull with a 2–0 victory against the lacklustre Red Devils.
Hull City continued their winning start to the campaign with a win over Stoke City on penalties to progress in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night. That midweek victory should provide a confidence boost ahead of their trip to Coventry.

Coventry City
Haji Wright, who scored 17 times for Coventry in the Championship last season, will be absent until the latter stages of 2026 due to a thigh injury. The American striker’s absence is a significant blow for Lampard, who will need to find an alternative solution up front.

Experienced goalkeeper Jack Butland is unavailable for the long term following an elbow operation, while new signing Oscar Zambrano is out for at least the coming few weeks with a thigh issue. Charlie Hughes continues to have issues after having a groin operation over the summer, and there is no clear return date for the defender at this stage.
New signing Joe Gelhardt will again miss out this weekend due to an ankle injury, and it is expected that he will be on the sidelines for another two weeks or so.
