Liverpool FC News Roundup: Coutinho returns to training, Lallana club player of the month for December and more

The Hard Tackle brings to you all the news in and around Liverpool Football Club ahead of their FA Cup match against Plymouth.

Adam Lallana has been named Liverpool Football Club’s Standard Chartered Player of the Month for December. The 28-year-old talisman has been in incredible form for the Reds this season altogether. But the English international took it up a notch in the month of December.

Lallana recorded a return of 4 goals and 2 assists to show for his efforts and has bagged the honour over his fellow in-form teammates. In a poll held on the official website, the player racked a whopping 55% of the total fan votes.

The player highlighted the contribution of the whole team in the month of December while lamenting the absence of Phillipe Coutinho and now, Sadio Mane.

He said, “My teammates have contributed massively. Whoever wins the award, it’s nice for them to win it – but it’s always on behalf of the team. If you go through the whole team, everyone has put shifts in. We’ve had a couple of injuries as well, so everyone has needed to step up to the plate.”

“With Sadio going away now, hopefully we can get Phil back fit, everyone can chip in and we can hopefully have another good month.”

This is the second occasion in this season wherein Adam Lallana has bagged this honour, with the player also receiving the award for his displays in the month of September.

Liverpool fans would hope the talisman continues to play a key role as the Reds look to finally get their hands on the ever elusive Premier League trophy.

Liverpool have confirmed that their midfield starlet Pedro Chirivella has joined Dutch outfit Go Ahead Eagles on loan till the end of the 2016-17 campaign. The 19-year-old arrived at Anfield from Valencia in 2013 and has established himself as one of the brighter young talents present at the club. The midfielder has amassed 5 senior appearances for Liverpool and is thought to have the potential to be a future first-team player for the club.

The player has impressed for the Under-23 team in Premier League 2 this season, racking up 3 assists in 6 outings and would now look to aid Go Ahead Eagles’ Eredivisie campaign as they look to beat the drop and secure a respectable finish.

The Reds have confirmed through their official website that the away tickets for the EFL Cup semi-final first-leg clash against Southampton at the St. Mary’s on Wednesday, January 11, has been sold out.

Philippe Coutinho is a welcome presence at the Liverpool training ground as he joined his teammates who were getting ready for their FA Cup fixture against Plymouth. The FA Cup match is likely to come too soon for the Brazilian.

But the return of Coutinho is likely to lift the spirits of the camp, after a disappointing 2-2 draw against Sunderland that saw them lose the chance to close the gap to Chelsea.

Liverpool target Andrea Belotti is reportedly on Arsenal’s radar. But Arsene Wenger has been told to cough up at least £50 million in order to secure a transfer for the in-form Torino striker.

Wilfried Zaha, who was a Liverpool target, seems set to stay at Crystal Palace, for this window at least, after Tottenham is reported to be pulling out of the race to sign the winger.
