Wayne Rooney has made an eye-catching statement about his former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Wayne Rooney has opened up on Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational return to Manchester United. The Red Devils’ all-time top scorer has heaped praise on his former teammate and claims that he can extend his career until the age of 40.
Ronaldo attracted the headlines at the end of last month by rejoining Manchester United on a two-year deal. The move has boosted Manchester United’s profile once again, giving them the added push as they look to compete with Chelsea and Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
One of Ronaldo’s former teammate Wayne Rooney has recently opened up on his return to Old Trafford. “The last time he played here, he was more of a runner, a great dribbler, with pace and power,” said Rooney, speaking to Sky Sports.
The former English striker featured in 559 competitive matches for Manchester United. He is, in fact, the club’s all-time highest goalscorer and had played along with the Portuguese international for many years, helping the club win multiple Premier League titles.
“Whereas now, he’s a goalscorer. I think his game has adapted dramatically. His ability is obviously one thing, but then he’s also looked after himself massively… he’s still in great condition,” Rooney added, hailing Ronaldo’s fitness despite his age.
The former Everton attacker, who is eight months younger than his former teammate and is currently managing Derby County, further claimed that Ronaldo can play on for at least four more years for Manchester United.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s playing until he’s 40, like Ryan Giggs did, and still scoring goals. His teammates will have to work a little harder. But if it’s anything like last time – towards the last two years of playing with him – the team allowed him to do that because he scores you goals, and goals win you games,” said the 35-year-old.
