Things went from bad to worse for Manchester United as they suffered their third consecutive defeat within the span of eight days. The Red Devils were outplayed for most parts of the game and their big names failed to impress yet again.
United captain Wayne Rooney has been under tremendous scrutiny as he put in yet another shambolic performance in his side’s 3-1 defeat at Watford. Never did the 30-year-old look composed on the ball and rarely created chances for Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front.
Rooney was given some slack for his shambolic performances of late:
Watford’s star player today was hands down Wayne Rooney. Continually broke up United’s play & fed Watford players the ball all game#MUFC

We need a formation that works around the likes of Pogba, Rashford and Mkhitaryan ect, fact is Wayne Rooney ruins them all. #MUFC

Not sure why everyone is moaning about Wayne Rooney…….he’s been out standing for Watford today

Most expensive player in the history of football and he is played out of position to accommodate a clearly past his best Wayne Rooney. #Mess

At my funeral, I’m going to ask Wayne Rooney to lower my coffin, so he can let me down one last time.

“Retire and be a hero, or play long enough to see yourself become the villain.” – the story of Bruce Wayne Rooney.

Got stick from many as season started about Rooney, but if anyone thinks he’s worth his place in this #MUFC side they are deluded.

Wayne Rooney is done at the top level time to send him to china I think

Wayne Rooney. We’re talking about a 2 billion pound company being bullied by a man who reads with his finger under every word. Mind boggling

I challenge Wayne Rooney fans to give me one good reason as to why he shouldn’t be dropped and eventually sold.
— Ryan Anthony Stubbs (@MisterStubbs) September 18, 2016
Rooney should pay the fans 300k a week
— hamzah (@HamzahUmarji) September 18, 2016
Rooney just can’t start anymore. This result wasn’t single-handedly his fault, but he creates more problems than solutions. A real hindrance
— Liam Canning (@LiamPaulCanning) September 18, 2016
Over three years of Rooney playing like that now. And he’s the club captain.

There are a lot of things wrong with the team but accomodating Rooney is probably the biggest mistake of them all.
