It was not Arsenal’s best game, not when the opposition had 10 men for about 80 minutes, but the Gunners scrapped through courtesy of a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goal.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from what could be considered a lucky moment for the striker, as Ben Foster fluffed a back pass and allowed the striker to pounce on a loose opportunity to score. The Gabonese’s strike in the 8th minute gave Arsenal the lead, but about a minute later Watford captain Troy Deeney was sent off for an elbow on Lucas Torreira.
Everyone thought the red card was the turning point of the game in favour of the Gunners, but Watford clung on to the match and never really made anyone feel they were playing with a man less. Arsenal created the most chances but failed to score following the Aubameyang strike, and it was Watford who pushed for an equaliser despite their inferior numbers on the pitch.
In the end, it was 1-0 to Arsenal, which allowed the North Londoners to move back into the top four. As for some reactions, it was Aubameyang’s goal and Deeney’s moment of madness that dominated Twitter, while there were also some thoughts on Arsenal and their lack of ideas to take control of a 10-man Watford side.

That match was wayyy too close though. 10 men 1-0 up and we were low key getting ran on. Gotta smarten up for Thursday. Can’t help but feel not having Koscielny, Torreira, Xhaka, Socratis together hurts us. Leno put in a shift today massive help. #Arsenal #COYG

Then came the moment of madness from Troy Deeney, who was sent off, and Twitter could not agree more on the decision, especially Arsenal fans, who have not traditionally liked Deeney.
Players like Deeney have gotten away with such folly against Arsenal a lot in the past. Mr Cojones, nonsense. #WATARS

Troy #Deeney himself once said to me “don’t give the ref a decision to make” so he’ll be furious with himself tonight. That said the referee made the wrong call. Not a red. #Watfordfc #Arsenal #WATARS
