Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has been linked with Manchester United, but the player’s agent has now dismissed the rumours.
As quoted by 90min, Manchester United are one of the clubs keen on signing Victor Osimhen. But he is content at Napoli and is unlikely to leave anytime soon. The player has been on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain as well.
“There are many clubs interested in Victor but he wants to stay, he’s really happy with Napoli project,” Osimhen’s agent told Radio Kiss Kiss (h/t 90min).
“We’ve been very clear this summer after strange rumours, he wanted to stay. It was Victor’s will to stay at Napoli and play the Champions League together with his team-mates. Victor wanted just that: to have a great year with Napoli, between the league and the Champions League.
“He has a long contract with the blue club. The market is dynamic, but our will is to continue with Napoli and continue to do well.”
The 23 year old joined Napoli for a fee of around €80 million back in 2020 and has been a key player for the Serie A outfit. Osimhen has 27 goals in 57 appearances for the Serie A giants. He has scored four goals this season as well.
Osimhen is regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in world football now. And he has the potential to develop into a top class player. In theory, he could be a quality acquisition for Manchester United, who are one of his suitors.
Erik ten Hag needs to add more quality and depth to his squad, and Osimhen seems like a perfect fit on paper. The 23-year-old can operate as the number nine as well as a wide forward. He will add goals, pace and flair to United’s front three.
With Cristiano Ronaldo expected to leave at the end of the season, Osimhen could be his long-term replacement at the end of the season.
Napoli have always been a club willing to sell their players for the right price, and Manchester United have the resources to tempt them. That said, the Red Devils will have to pay over the odds to secure his signature.
Apart from Ronaldo, Manchester United could part ways with Anthony Martial in the summer as well. The Frenchman has not been at his best, with his fitness issues also being a major issue. Napoli are highly unlikely to sell Osimhen midway through the season, so it will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to try their luck in the summer.
