Aston Villa signed Harvey Elliott on loan from Liverpool during the summer transfer window, but the move has not worked out.
Harvey Elliott has endured a difficult time at Aston Villa so far. The 22-year-old has started just one Premier League game for the West Midlands outfit, and he will need to play more often at this stage of his career. There have been rumours that the player could return to Liverpool in January due to the lack of opportunities.
Aston Villa have an obligation to buy the English playmaker permanently for £35 million, should certain conditions be met. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
Manager Unai Emery has been asked about the player’s future at the club. The Spanish manager has rubbished any speculations ahead of the January window and suggested that Aston Villa have a lot of matches to play, and Elliott could prove to be useful for the team.
“We have a lot of matches and we must focus with the players we have now,” Emery said when asked if Elliott has a future at Villa.
“We are not thinking about the transfer window in January. He is one of our players, and hopefully he can help us; then we are going to decide. We have a lot of players performing very well but he is training very well.”
It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa are prepared to give Harvey Elliott more opportunities during the second half of the season. So far, it has been evident that Emery does not fancy the youngster as a key part of his plans. If they cannot give him the opportunities he needs, it would be ideal for the 22-year-old to leave the club in January.
Liverpool might look to find him a new club where he will play regularly. There is no doubt that he is a promising young player with a bright future. Sitting on the bench at Aston Villa will not benefit the Englishman.
Elliott has the quality to operate in multiple attacking roles, and he could have been a very useful player for Aston Villa. The English playmaker has shown his quality with Liverpool in the past, and Aston Villa would do well to give him more opportunities.
