Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has confirmed the club are pushing hard to permanently sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Manchester United shot-stopper Andre Onana enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Trabzonspor last time out. On the back of his performances, the Turkish club are now looking to sign him permanently, and their president, Ertugrul Dogan, has publicly confirmed their efforts to get a deal over the line.
While speaking to HT Spor, Dogan said via FutbolArena: “We’re meeting with Onana every day. We won’t face any financial issues. We’ll make the necessary sacrifices. I don’t think we’ll encounter any hitches, but if we do, we’ll find another goalkeeper of the same quality.”
Onana made quite a name for himself for his heroics with Inter Milan during the 2022/23 season, and on the back of it, Manchester United forked out €51 million to sign him. He was brought in to replace David de Gea.
While everyone had massive expectations from the Cameroonian international, he failed to deliver. After two disappointing seasons at Old Trafford, the Red Devils decided to invest in young Senne Lammens as their new number one.
Onana became surplus to requirements, and the club ended up sending him out on loan to Trabzonspor. It was a straightforward season-long loan deal, without any buy option or obligation. During his loan spell, the 30-year-old was involved in 33 games across competitions and ended up conceding just 40 goals, with six clean sheets to his name.
Trabzonspor want to sign Onana permanently
His shot-stopping and ball-playing abilities impressed everyone at the Turkish club, and they are now keen on signing him on a permanent basis. While he still has two years left on his deal at Manchester United, there is no way back for him at Old Trafford.
Lammens has cemented the number one spot as his own; as a result, United are now open to cashing in on the 30-year-old. Trabzonspor are ready to make a move, and their president has already confirmed that they have stepped up their efforts.
Dogan has also assured the fans that finances won’t be a problem in their attempt to get a deal over the line and that they are in daily conversation with Onana regarding a permanent switch. The next few weeks will be very important with regard to the future of the Cameroonian international.
