Tony Coton predicts bright Senne Lammens future

Manchester United were struggling with their goalkeeping situation after the departure of David de Gea, but Senne Lammens has certainly eased the woes.

Senne Lammens has done well since his £18 million move from Royal Antwerp last summer. He rejected Aston Villa in favour of joining Manchester United.

Manchester United goalkeeping scout Tony Coton has now heaped praise on the Belgian for his performances so far, and he has insisted that Lammens has the quality to develop into one of the best goalkeepers in the world if he continues to work hard.

Lammens has made 57 saves in the Premier League this season, which is more than elite shot-stoppers like Alisson Becker and David Raya. He also has a solid save percentage of 67.1%.

Senne Lammens backed to become a star

Coton said via Sky Sports, “He can be anything. If he puts the work in and he has a really good work ethic – he does. He’s got all the tools and he’s got the mental capacity to cope with it, as we’ve seen.

“From a goalkeeping point of view, I don’t want to compare him to anyone. He is Senne Lammens and he is himself, and if he keeps working as hard as he is doing and we get those little things tidied up, he can be one of the world’s best, I’m sure he can.

“He’s still got a bit to do, for me, though. He’s got a lot of improvement to do in certain areas. oton added: “They asked me could he go into the team and I said, ‘Yes straight away, straight away’. I had to say that anyway because I’d recommended him!”

The United scout, who was at Aston Villa at the time, revealed he had been monitoring the youngster since first coming across him as an Under-17s international in 2019.

He said, “I saw somebody that loved to protect his goal, defend his goal. It hurt him when a goal went in, it meant something because he’d conceded. He wasn’t happy. Even from an early age, you really had to look at him and analyse him to see which was his stronger foot.”

Lammens is the future for Manchester United

The 23-year-old has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Manchester United, and he will be reasonably pleased with his displays at his new club so far. The fans will be relieved with the improved goalkeeping situation as well.

Last season, they had Andre Onana as the first-choice goalkeeper, and the former Inter Milan star cost his team valuable points with his consistent errors. They were in desperate need of a quality goalkeeper, and Lammens has been outstanding for them.

He is a young goalkeeper with a lot of potential, and he will continue to improve with coaching and experience. Meanwhile, Manchester United will need to bring in a reliable backup option to the Belgian shot-stopper in the coming months. They are expected to cash in on Onana and Altay Bayindir this summer.

The Belgian goalkeeper will be delighted with the way his Manchester United career has gone so far, and he will look to build on that and improve further in the coming months. Manchester United appear set to return to the UEFA Champions League next season, and he will look to play a key role and help them win a trophy soon.
