Eric Maxim Choupo-Motim struck a brace as Stoke City held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.
Choupo-Moting broke the deadlock deep into the first half to put Stoke ahead before Marcus Rashford levelled things up in injury time, deflecting Paul Pogba’s header past Jack Butland. The visitors then grabbed the lead around the hour-mark when Romelu Lukaku scored his fourth goal of the season.
But Manchester United’s joy was short lived as Choupo-Moting headed in his and Stoke’s second to ensure the two sides shared the spoils on the day. And Phil Jones, alongside partner Eric Bailly, were criticised after a poor outing as their individual errors led to both the goals.
Praise him when he’s playing well, but that’s two key mistakes from Eric Bailly there. Lazy defending.

Jones + Bailly both had wonderful starts to the season leading up to this game but both responsible for Stoke’s goals. Poor mistakes.

Never understood why Phil Jones is allowed anywhere near the United team. Football’s greatest mystery.

Wraps up an awful weeekend. Every rival team won bar Liverpool, and we drop 2 points. Phil Jones and Darmian were atrocious. #mufc

Save of the month by De Gea. That’s like a goal for United. Then we concede from the corner. Phil Jones……#MUFC

No surprise Stoke’s goal came from a cross from United’s left but Bailly slow to get out, as well. Not great defending.

Meanwhile, Manchester United fans had mixed feelings after another winless result away at Stoke, with some claiming a curse in the fixture.
A point at Stoke is by no means the end of world. Despite what some people think we cannot win every game 4-0
— Michael Barton (@mrmichaelbarton) September 9, 2017
International break as expected ruined our momentum. ‘Champions win at Stoke’, hopefully not the case as we still can’t beat them.
— Hesham Bilal-Hafiz (@hesham786) September 9, 2017
Hate Stoke away.
A very disappointing performance all around. International break killed the momentum. Only one game so not gonna overreact.— Sadikshya (@Sadikshya_) September 9, 2017
You’ve got to put some disposable points aside for Stoke away ?♂️
— NOT NICE (@AaronMancz) September 9, 2017
Massively frustrating the way we conceded those goals. Individual errors, man. Away draw at Stoke ain’t bad though. #matchdayGaz

We really need to get over this Stoke away curse bruv! Thats 4 seasons

Our Stoke away curse continues.. #MUFC

However, the two goalkeepers got their fair share of praises after enjoying superb outings between the sticks.
What a save from De Gea. Won’t be many better than that this season.

Still can’t get over this save by David De Gea ??pic.twitter.com/I930jiti3O

Jack Butland. England’s best goalkeeper.
— Sam Tighe ? (@stighefootball) September 9, 2017
Jack Butland needs to be England’s number 1.

This save today from David De Gea is one of the best saves I’ve ever seen. Incredible reaction. So, so good. pic.twitter.com/5p4RRVXBAo

Jack Butland made the save of a lifetime to rescue a point for Stoke.
Joe Hart will probably still start ahead of him for England. ?

Jose Mourinho snubbing Mak Hughes’ offer of a handshake at full-time was another major talking point after the two managers were involved in a controversial moment during the game.
Mourinho shakes the hand of every member of Stoke’s backroom staff, ignores Mark Hughes and then heads to the tunnel.

Jose Mourinho’ ignoring Mark Hughes as United draw 2-2 to Stoke.. pic.twitter.com/RVNsxiiKT8

Mark Hughes’s behavior has been ridiculous. Full support for Mourinho for refusing to refuse to shake hands with him at the end of the match
— MourinhoMUFCfan (@MourinhoMUFCfan) September 9, 2017
Mourinho not shaking hands with Hughes is par for the course. Apart from Simon le Bon he’s the most obnoxious person I’ve ever worked with
