Liverpool are still looking for their first Champions League win of the season after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Spartak Moscow at Otkrytiye Arena on Tuesday.
After the brief highs of Saturday, the September frustrations continued for Jurgen Klopp and co. on Tuesday as they played out yet another draw, this time against Spartak Moscow. The hosts grabbed the lead from a Fernando free-kick midway through the first-half.
But Philippe Coutinho, who was guilty of giving away the free-kick recklessly made amends at the half-hour mark as he equalised for the Reds with his first Champions League goal. Thereafter though, it was a night of close calls for the visitors as it remained all square even as they dominated the proceedings.
Post the match, Klopp expressed his frustrations at his players not being clinical enough on the night. But the Liverpool boss was at the receiving end of fans’ ire after yet another disappointing result, while the rivals got a laugh at his expense.
Rafa Benitez must come home to save our club. A “KLOPP OUT RAFA IN” banner will be flown over St James’ Park at game this weekend. #KloppOUT pic.twitter.com/AGtYrYIRFj

Klopp’s approach of taking players off who are playing well & leaving players on who can’t put a foot right is why we’re dropping points.

Liverpool has one win in 6 games. Yet to win a game in the Champions league this season.
But Klopp is a great because he hugs his players

As a #LFC fan it’s a pain watching the team. Concede every match! Awful defence and wasteful forwards. @LFC #kloppout

Liverpool pumping long balls to no central striker towards the end of the game, there.
Klopp – tactical genius.

We’re a laughing stock right now, this manager is useless, why is he still here? Were going backwards. Europe are laughing at us #KloppOUT

Another draw. We can’t even blame the defence this time. We’ll be lucky to qualify for the Europa at this rate. #KloppOut

Klopp was also slammed for his decision to start Loris Karius in place of Simon Mignolet, picking out the German goalkeeper for his effort (or lack of it) in the opening goal.
Watch Karius from this fan angle – way too slow ⚽️ pic.twitter.com/yaeuz7t3kH

Karius doesn’t deserve to play in the champions league but Klopp thinks it’s career mode & has to play 3 keepers in different competitions
— Saif (@SaifStark_) September 26, 2017
Karius is done for me. Mignolet all day.
— Anfield Leak (@AnfieldLeak) September 26, 2017
Karius has done nothing to deserve being our @ChampionsLeague keeper. Mignolet played a big role in getting us there. Not cool.
— Olé (@Ole_LFC) September 26, 2017
Just a reminder that Karius has not saved any of the shots he has faced this season
— Luke⚡️ (@SimplyKeita) September 26, 2017
I’m sorry – but Loris Karius just isn’t good enough to be playing Champions League football. Should be our third choice in all competitions.

But, it wasn’t all doom and gloom for Liverpool as Philippe Coutinho seems to be winning back the fans after another solid performance.
9 – Philippe Coutinho has now scored nine goals in his last 14 competitive appearances for Liverpool. Influence. pic.twitter.com/2voiAYivPV

Coutinho…that is all.

Cannot believe there were people insisting we should’ve sold Coutinho and give Can whatever he wanted ?

Incredible move by Mane and Coutinho. So frustrating watching us attack like that and needless goal after goal going in the other end.

COUTINHO! Great link up play from him & Mane ? pic.twitter.com/tBUQPk3cnd

Coutinho has just silenced 40,000 Spartak fans. Fine finish after one-two with Mane

Keeping Coutinho is the best thing we’ve done in years, unbelievable player
