Southampton 2-2 Manchester United: Pressure continues to mount on Mourinho despite comeback [Tweets]

Manchester United came back from two goals down to salvage a point against Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

Manchester United’s hopes of breaking into the top four of the Premier League took a further hit, as they played out a 2-2 draw against a lowly Southampton side this weekend.

Jose Mourinho’s men found themselves two goals down after only 20 minutes into the game, with Stuart Armstrong and Cedric Soares putting the home team in front with two brilliant strikes. However, the Red Devils struck back soon after, with Romelu Lukaku halving the deficit in the 33rd minute, before Ander Herrera levelled things up six minutes later.

Manchester United could not complete a turnaround though, as their search for a winner in the second half yielded little success. The result meant Mourinho’s men are now three games without a win in the league and are 16 points behind leaders and local rivals Manchester City. Naturally the fans weren’t pleased with the outcome of the game or the performance.

Mourinho sprung a surprise with his team selection, fielding Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic starting as part of the three-man backline. Fair to say that it didn’t work out as the manager had anticipated and the fans were left baffled by the selection;
