Sergio Ramos sends message to Raphael Varane over Manchester United move

Sergio Ramos has offered his blessing to former Real Madrid teammate Raphael Varane over his recent move to Manchester United.

Responding to Raphael Varane’s eye-catching move to Manchester United, his former teammate Sergio Ramos took to Instagram to wish him well ahead of his new adventure in the Premier League, reports Metro.

A product of the Lens youth academy, Varane spent the entirety of his Real Madrid career under the leadership of Ramos. They spent nine years together at the Santiago Bernabeu, securing a total of four Champions League and three La Liga titles. The Frenchman himself made 360 competitive appearances, becoming one of the top defenders in Europe.

There is no doubt that Ramos’s aggression and eccentric character had played a key part in shaping Varane into a top class centre-back. But the duo has recently broke apart, with the former ending his 16 year spell at the Bernabeu in favour of a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

And it appears the veteran defender is delighted over his former teammate Varane’s decision to end his spell with Los Blancos. He congratulated the 28 year old on Instagram, “Dear Rapha, I can only thank you for these years of friendship, companionship and triumphs, and wish you luck in a new stage that will surely be exciting”

Currently 35, Ramos recently missed out on the European Championship with Spain. But the centre-back did joke about facing Varane only in the international competitions. “If we face each other, always with the team of your country, right? Take care,” the PSG star wrote on Instagram.

Sergio Ramos is not the only one to congratulate Raphael Varane over his move to Manchester United either. Earlier this week, former French international Patrice Evra hailed the 28-year-old, even comparing him with Rio Ferdinand, whereas the likes of Gary Lineker and Darren Ambrose also praising the club for pulling off such a bargain.

It will be interesting to see how the former Lens prodigy deals with the pressure, though, knowing he will be expected to instantly improve the overall quality of the Manchester United backline. We could soon see him in action as well, with new the Premier League season set to begin in two weeks time.
