Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s agent first insisted on contact with Manchester United and then denied the claim in a stunning U-turn regarding the midfielder’s future.
Some may remember Mateja Kezman as a player sporadically featuring for PSG and Chelsea during his playing days. Not many will know that he currently manages one of the sought-after midfielders in Europe, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is at a crossroads with regard to his future.
Milinkovic-Savic is heavily linked with Manchester United, among other clubs, as he inches closer to leaving Lazio after many years at the club. The connections to the Red Devils are nothing new, as the club and the player have been one of the favourite writing topics for British and Italian media.
However, Lazio are prepared to let him leave if they can get a significant offer in the summer. Maurizio Sarri wants to use those funds to strengthen the side in the next window. Manchester United are expected to bring in a big-name midfielder after Erik ten Hag’s appointment, with Paul Pogba set to depart.
Milinkovic-Savic’s agent, Kezman, has now made headlines after first claiming he is in discussions with Manchester United regarding the midfielder, admitting that the Serb wanted to join the Red Devils, only to later deny it. The former player’s comments appeared on Goal.com via Foot01, where the agent claimed Milinkovic-Savic was keen on a move to Old Trafford.
Kezman said, “Sergej is not short of offers for the summer transfer market. Right now we are negotiating with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain . He is focused on the end of the season with Lazio, but Sergej wants to go to Manchester.”
However, via TuttoJuve, Kezman has denied his own claims, calling it fake news. He said, ” It’s big fake news. I’ve never given interviews in the last period. Some journalists are really incredible! I’m very angry, it’s a lack of respect towards me, towards Sergej and towards Lazio.”
Kezman’s words are puzzling and are likely to only create more confusion and uncertainty over Milinkovic-Savic’s future. The Serbian international has been part of the Lazio side since 2015 and has a contract until 2024.
Lazio might look to cash in in the summer if the player desires to leave the club. It remains to be seen if Manchester United are interested or if these are just rumours invented by the media, although Kezman’s first statements might have some weightage. Things will clear up when the summer window opens.
