Ruben Amorim suggests Manchester United could pursue a striker in January

Ruben Amorim has hinted at the possibility of searching for a new striker ahead of January following worrying indications over Benjamin Sesko.

Ruben Amorim has hinted at the possibility of signing a new striker in January. The Manchester United boss did not give a very optimistic update on Benjamin Sesko following a knee injury sustained against Tottenham, which could throw the Red Devils in search for a new centre-forward.

Manchester United are expected to be active in the winter transfer window in search of players who would improve their squad. A midfielder and a centre back are high on their agenda, as well as a wing-back, provided the right players are available in the market.

The Red Devils were not expected to sign players for the sake of it, and they will only move for their preferred targets provided they are available in January. Manchester United are keeping tabs on a few midfield targets, but now they might enter the frame for a new striker despite signing Benjamin Sesko in the summer.

Following a dramatic late draw at Tottenham, Ruben Amorim has potentially hinted at the possibility of the club entering the market for a new striker. Sesko injured his knee while missing a glorious chance to give his team the lead in the game. Amorim later commented on his status, and while he did not give exact details about the problems, his words on the Daily Mirror did hint at a measure of worry with the Slovenian.

Amorim said, We have to check. “He had something in his knee, let’s see. Pressed on whether the issue was significant. “I have no idea. Because it’s the knee, we never know.”

Manchester United had even planned on signing a backup for Sesko back in the summer as they allowed Rasmus Hojlund to depart the club. However, their potential targets for the striker’s position remain unclear at this moment, although there have been links to Real Madrid’s Endrick.

Manchester United are not in a position to bring in a big-name striker immediately in the January transfer window, as they will assess their situation, and more importantly, Sesko’s fitness update will then give a clearer picture of what they need. There are also considerable doubts over Joshua Zirkzee’s future, but the club are leaning towards keeping the Dutchman as they will already lose a few key attackers for AFCON.

The need for a new striker may not necessarily stem from the Sesko issues, as they had been looking for one since last summer, even after signing the Slovenian. Zirkzee’s imminent future could decide the club’s next steps about a new striker, especially considering the Dutchman is not playing many minutes at the moment.
