Manchester United legend Roy Keane makes brutal claim about Michael Carrick and the managerial job at Old Trafford.
Following the sacking of Ruben Amorim mid-season, Darren Fletcher was handed the reins at Old Trafford on an interim basis before Michael Carrick took over as the caretaker until the end of the season.
The former United midfielder has had a sensational start to life as a manager at his old club. The 44-year-old has led them in two Premier League games, and they have secured all three points on both occasions.
United haven’t just won games, they have taken down the most in-form teams in the country. The Red Devils first secured a sensational 2-0 win over rivals Manchester City in the derby and have backed it up with a 3-2 win over league leaders Arsenal. Both wins have helped them climb into the top four.
Keane is against Carrick being United’s boss
Despite an exceptional start, Roy Keane still has his doubts about Michael Carrick being the right man for the club. The United legend made some brutal claims while speaking on Sky Sports following their win over the Gunners.
He said, “Two great performances but anyone can win two games,”
“If United win every game until the end of the season, I still wouldn’t be giving him the job. I still wouldn’t be convinced he’s the man for the job. Absolutely not.
“They need a bigger and better manager. The size of the club and the challenges they face over the next few years, you want a manager who you feel can get them winning league titles.
“Are we going to sit here and believe Michael Carrick can get United winning league titles? It’s not enough for me. I don’t believe he is the man to get them winning league titles.”
Keane is absolutely delighted with the start the club has had under Carrick. While the team has done wonders under him so far, the former United skipper is still not convinced about him being the right man for the job in the long run.
Even if Carrick manages to win every game until the end of the season, Keane will still be against him being handed the reins on a permanent basis. Keane feels United need a more experienced campaigner. Someone who can not only steady the ship, but also help them win major titles.
Despite the start, Keane believes Carrick doesn’t have it in him to guide them to the league title. While he did accept the fact that under him, the swagger is back, and it feels like the good old days, the United legend is still against him being the full-time boss going forward.
