Rivaldo backs Antonio Conte for Manchester United success

Brazil legend Rivaldo has backed Antonio Conte to succeed at Manchester United if he is appointed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement.

Antonio Conte is a man in demand after recent managerial problems engulfing Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The Old Trafford defeat to Liverpool spurned the Red Devils board to hold an emergency meeting, with reports pointing towards the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While the Norwegian was given a fresh lease of life as Manchester United would want to wait to see how the team performed in their next few fixtures, Conte is still tipped to replace Solskjaer if he gets sacked. As Manchester United reacted positively by beating Spurs in north London, the pressure might have eased.

However, at the time of writing, Spurs have already sacked Nuno Espirito Santo following that defeat to Manchester United; Conte is linked back to the north London side. This could be a tricky situation for the Red Devils, who are reportedly considering bringing the Italian as their next manager if the Norwegian was to be relieved.

Conte has enough pedigree to make wise decisions over his next project. The Italian recently won the Serie A title with Inter and departed the club following a disagreement with the board over transfers. These quarrels are a familiar story with the Italian manager who had similar falling outs with former employers Chelsea and Juventus.

Amidst the speculations, former Brazil international and World Cup winner Rivaldo has backed Conte to join Manchester United and succeed at the club. The legendary attacker told Tribalfootball that he believes the Italian would be perfectly suited to the club, stating he would bring success with their squad.

Rivaldo said, “He has the pedigree to coach a big European club, especially in a country where he has already managed, which will make things easier for him in terms of adaptation.

“With him at the helm, United will become a more pressing team with offensive football and intensity, which could fit better with the players the club currently has in the squad. Conte also demands a lot from his players, which might increase their commitment to go forward. In my opinion, he would be a nice option for the club if there is change.”

As things stand, Conte might be in a position to consider Spurs’ offer, which may create a new problem for Manchester United. There might not be another viable candidate for the club if they decide to sack Solskjaer next week if they perform badly against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
