Real Madrid 2-1 Eibar: Benzema brace seals comeback win for Zidane’s men [Tweets]

Real Madrid came back from a goal down to defeat Eibar 2-1 at Santiago Bernabeu, courtesy of a double from Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid started the game on a positive note and saw an early goal from Karim Benzema ruled out for offside during the build-up. From then on, it was Eibar who looked the more threatening in the final third and they deservedly took the lead through Marc Cardona in the 39th minute.

Zinedine Zidane’s team came out with more intent and purpose after the break and thought they had equalised through Benzema, only for VAR to cancel the goal for offside. The Frenchman finally got the goal his performance deserved, as he headed home in the 59th minute to make it 1-1.

With less than ten minutes left on the clock, Benzema completed the turnaround for Real Madrid with another precise header after being found by substitute Toni Kroos. The French striker had multiple opportunities to complete his hat-trick, but missed the chances and was denied by the post once, as Real held out for a win.

Real Madrid supporters were in full praise of Benzema as he inspired the team to a victory that takes them to within two points of second-placed Atletico Madrid in the La Liga standings.

The Real Madrid defence has been quite off colour of late and were poor once again in the lead up to Eibar’s goal. And naturally, the fans were critical of the performance.
