Real Madrid and Tottenham continued to remain tied atop Group H as the two sides played out a closely contested 1-1 draw at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
The visitors took a shock lead just before the half-hour mark when Raphael Varane was forced to head Serge Aurier’s cross into his own net. But, Zinedine Zidane’s men levelled things up ahead of half-time as Cristiano Ronaldo made no mistake to convert from the spot after Aurier was penalised for a poor foul on Toni Kroos.
Post the break, Los Blancos and Spurs traded blows, with Hugo Lloris making a couple of brilliant saves to deny the hosts, and the Tottenham captain was hailed by users on Twitter for a stellar performance on the night.

Sorry, still not over that Lloris save. People will talk about it tonight, but it’ll be forgotten about soon. Absolutely remarkable stop.

Hugo Lloris could stop Donald Trump tweeting

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo was the toast of the Real Madrid fans after a strong performance on the night, while former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric was lauded as well.

I think Cristiano Ronaldo is the best footballer in the World
Remember Messi comes from another World.
— Sports Obama (@SaddickAdams) October 17, 2017
Modric is so good that in the time he needs to size up the killer pass, he can complete three simpler ones while he’s just thinking about it
— Sam Wallace (@SamWallaceTel) October 17, 2017
Luka Modrič doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
I say he is up there with the likes of
Xavi Hernandez
Paul Scholes

The strike from Ronaldo on the pen probably the best I’ve ever seen. No one on this earth can do it like that. For me the best ever.
— Zeus (@KeylorinhoZZ) October 17, 2017
Modric is not from earth I promise you
— Kiyan Sobhani (@KiyanSo) October 17, 2017
Don’t ever compare Modric to any other midfielder in football history. For me the best ever.

But, Karim Benzema came at the receiving end of fans’ frustration after an underwhelming outing on the night.
“I dont wanna dissapoint you”
First of all, my club’s striker is Benzema
— amna (@Ohhmyisco) October 17, 2017
Will always appreciate Benzema’s link up play and selflessness, but there comes a time when he just needs to score. Cost RM 3 points today.
— EiF (@EiFsoccer) October 17, 2017
Benzema really does miss an enormous number of sitters.
— Andy West (@andywest01) October 17, 2017
I have no words for Benzema’s finishing….
— ZIZOU (@RMadridCastilla) October 17, 2017
I might have a bad day, but watching Benzema makes it better, wasteful, can’t believe some think he should start ahead of Giroud for France
— Safin (@safxn) October 17, 2017
Benzema is an embarrassment. But that goal against Getafe last week probably bought him 6 more months of unmeritted starts with Zizou so.
