Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid played out a highly-entertaining 1-1 draw in the Madrid Derby last night after Pepe’s opener was cancelled out by a late goal from big-game specialist Antoine Griezmann.
Madrid looked all set for a victory before Griezmann’s dramatic equaliser and despite having the lion’s share of possession they were unable to get past the brilliant Jan Oblak, who pulled off several fine saves to deny Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
Pepe was the man of the match on the night and Twitter was quick to show appreciation for the Portuguese defender who might have played his last game for Los Blancos, after being forced off with an injury in the second half after an unfortunate coming together with Toni Kroos.
Just read the news about Pepe, so sad. He’s out for 2 months & probably played his last game for Real Madrid ? #AnimoPepe

The thought that today’s match was probably Pepe’s last match in the Madrid shirt is making me feel very sad! ??

Why can’t we renew Pepe’s contract? He’s a madridista at heart, has given everything to this club. Absolute legend and beast of a player.

Renew Pepe’s contract @realmadriden ?? He deserves better than this!!

Has most likely played his last ever game in the royal white. You will be missed massively Pepe. pic.twitter.com/WAywOO3Sqe

ain’t nobody like PEPE, put him back in the hyperbolic time chamber and bring him out for Bayern. pic.twitter.com/63Qbc1EgEz

I just want to kiss Pepe’s beautiful bald head right now.

Jan Oblak also received huge amounts of praise after putting in yet another brilliant performance for Atletico Madrid. Stefan Savic’s incredible goal-line clearance also prompted a huge reaction on Twitter.
Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers in the world ?

I’LL BUILD A STATUE FOR OBLAK, WHO WANTS TO JOIN ME
— /æ’lis/ (@satirassy) April 8, 2017
Beautiful Football by Real Madrid! Just Oblak not letting us score!
— Mano (@Officialhbkmano) April 8, 2017
Another amazing save from Oblak. He’s next in line after De Gea and Courtois (both RM targets). Great goalkeepers at Atleti in recent years.
— Ben Hayward (@bghayward) April 8, 2017
Spare me the ‘this is Zizou’s mistake’ tweets. We should’ve scored at least 3 goals. Oblak & Savic screwed us over. Zidane is not to blame.
— Ali (@RM_Insider) April 8, 2017
Outrageous block from Savic. Goalless in Madrid. pic.twitter.com/X4Rh74d5BO
— Sean (@SeanWaIker) April 8, 2017
Oblak was asked what his best save was and he responds saying, “My best save was Savic’s clearance”
— Robbie Dunne (@robbiejdunne) April 8, 2017
Would Savic had died if he had let that ball go in?
— Meldo (@Meldo_10) April 8, 2017
SAVIC AND OBLAK WE OWE YOU THE WORLD

The praise for Antoine Griezmann was inevitable after the Atletico Madrid man stepped up in a big game yet again, with United fans calling for his signature after yet another fine performance. Even Barcelona fans were thankful to the Frenchman after seeing their fierce rivals drop points.

Griezmann with a clinical finish in the Madrid Derby. Sign him up at any price.
Clinical isn’t a word that exists in our squad

Thank you Athletico Madrid! Thank you Antoine Griezmann! Barca says Gracias ????

Griezmann has been a top 3 player in the world in the last 30 months or so along with Messi and Suarez. Seems to get very little credit.
— reverse_ball (@reverse_ball) April 8, 2017
Griezmann scoring against Real Madrid but United fans who’s club can’t score against Burnley, Stoke and West Brom don’t want him
— Will (@TheCityIsRED1) April 8, 2017
Must be very optimistic to expect to win while having Griezmann on your team. Not even I am that optimistic
— Ahmad (@ahmadf_o) April 8, 2017
@MufcinNews Would be great if we got both Griezmann and James. Sell Rooney and Ibra, then we’re laughing. James only costs €35m… Bargain.
— Jordan Henshall (@JordyHensh07) April 8, 2017
I switch on the game, Griezmann scores. My work here is done.
