Ralf Rangnick insisted it will take more than just three or four players to rebuild Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Manchester United will enter a key phase when the summer transfer window opens, with fans hoping to see several of their issues resolved. Chief among them is bringing in the right players after consistently making costly errors in previous windows.
Moreover, the supporters are eagerly awaiting the announcement of a new full-time manager. Erik ten Hag is the firm favourite for the job, with Manchester United already working on closing a deal with Ajax. The new man at the helm might have plenty of say in the recruitment process.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who will step down from his current role and take up a consulting position for the next two years, insisted the players are key to stabilising the club as a first step. His comments on Sky Sports were quoted by Goal, as the German tactician also weighed in on the importance of a new manager.
Rangnick said, “The players have to give their very best no matter who the next manager will be, and if he is announced in one or two or three weeks, I don’t think that this affects the current situation we are in.”

“But yes, of course it’s important to know who will be the new manager, because to start the recruitment process, to find the best possible players only makes sense if you know who will be the manager and how does he want to play.”
Rangnick then went on to talk about the potential recruitment process the club have reportedly adopted for the upcoming window. The interim manager insisted it will take more than three or four signings to rebuild the squad.
Rangnick continued, “There might be a couple of players – and I have already named those players to the board – that independent from formation, from style of football, and independent from a new manager, that could be of interest for a club like United.”
“But in general, if you look at the size of the way the team needs to be rebuilt, I mean, it’s not enough to bring in three or four new players. It will be more, bearing in mind how many players will no longer be here with the contracts running out.”
“I think apart from the goalkeeping, we need to make sure that we improve the squad in all areas. To bring in players who really help the team to get better – again, it’s about the profile. What kind of players do we need in order to play whichever kind of football we want to play?”
There are high-profile players linked with Manchester United already ahead of the summer window. However, much will depend upon where they finish at the end of the season and on the new manager’s plans for the next phase of squad build-up.
