Quique Sanchez Flores has backed 21-year-old Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund to succeed under the tutelage of Ruben Amorim.
In an interview with The Sun, Quique Sanchez Flores gave his take on how Rasmus Hojlund would fare under the tutelage of Ruben Amorim. The Spanish tactician quoted the example of Viktor Gyokeres to suggest that the 21-year-old Danish international would succeed with the Portuguese tactician in charge of Manchester United.
Quique Sanchez Flores said, “I remember him as a clever, elegant and committed footballer. He was always close to his team-mates. The way his teams play reflects a high standard of discipline. He has a similar work ethic to former United manager Jose Mourinho. Only time will tell if Ruben can reach his level.”
“But, more importantly, he understands the mentality of the players in this new generation. With respect to Hojlund, the pack is the strength of the wolves. He is a good striker but he will only hit his high standards again if the team changes its level of performance. And Ruben now has the chance to train very good players in Manchester. Yes, he can do with Hojlund what he did with Gyokeres.”
Rasmus Hojlund and his Manchester United spell so far
Rasmus Hojlund has shown a lot of promise since joining Manchester United from Atalanta in August 2023. While the Dane has not been prolific, he has made his mark while showing the potential to become a goal machine with the desired service.
The 21-year-old has managed only two goals in ten appearances across all competitions. With Manchester United blowing hot and cold in the final third, Hojlund has endured a frustrating 2024/25 campaign thus far. However, Quique Sanchez Flores has made a pertinent point by citing Viktor Gyokeres’s example.
Gyokeres has been sensational under Amorim
The Swedish international has been incredible in the 2024/25 season thus far, amassing 20 goals and four assists in 16 appearances across all competitions. With Amorim bringing the best out of Gyokeres, Manchester United fans will be optimistic about Hojlund becoming a goal machine for the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Manchester United might pursue Gyokeres once Amorim takes charge. However, Hojlund will aim to prove his credentials and nail down the first-choice striker’s berth.
