PSG star Leandro Paredes ‘dreams’ of playing for Real Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes has admitted that he dreams of representing La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports (h/t MARCA), Paris Saint-Germain midfield mainstay Leandro Paredes has admitted that he wishes to play for Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old has been with PSG since January 2019, when he arrived from Russian outfit Zenit St. Petersburg. He has grown into a regular in the middle of the park for Les Parisiens and has made 113 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and registering nine assists so far.

However, Paredes finds himself staring at an uncertain future at Parc des Princes. The Argentine international’s current contract with PSG expires at the end of the next season, and he is yet to be offered a new deal by the Ligue 1 champions.

The former AS Roma midfielder has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old, though, harbours hopes of playing for Spanish champions Real Madrid.

“Every player dreams of wearing that [Real Madrid] shirt, it’s a very important club, but I have a lot of respect for my club, Paris Saint Germain, and I’m very happy here,” Paredes said in an interview with TyC Sports.

That statement is unlikely to have gone down too well with PSG and their fans. The Parisian giants do not share the best of equations with Real Madrid due to the latter’s pursuit of superstar Kylian Mbappe. The La Liga champions are pushing to sign the 23-year-old forward on a Bosman deal this summer even as Mauricio Pochettino’s side battle to retain his services.

At the same time, PSG were also dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid earlier this season despite the French champions taking a lead in the first leg. So, Paredes’ statements are unlikely to be appreciated by the fans or the club hierarchy either, considering that director Leonardo has never wasted an opportunity to take a dig at Real Madrid.

As for Paredes, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the Argentine international. However, a move to the Santiago Bernabeu looks extremely unlikely, with Real Madrid having shown little interest in securing his services.
