Paul Scholes slams Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Manchester derby loss

Paul Scholes did not shy away from criticising Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, claiming the Norwegian does not have a system in place.

Manchester United’s woes continued with yet another defeat at home, this time to neighbours and current Premier League champions Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s men made light work of the challenge posed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and took three points with ease.

Two goals in the first half were deemed enough by Guardiola, as Manchester City played in second gear throughout the next period. Manchester United still couldn’t break while creating no moments of real danger against their opponents.

Paul Scholes did not like what he saw and was again critical of the team and the manager after a recent scathing attack on Paul Pogba’s performance against Atalanta. This time, the former Manchester United midfielder attacked Solskjaer for his lack of ideas and stated that the Norwegian might not have a system in place after three years in charge.

Scholes spoke  to Premier League Productions after the game and some of his comments appeared on the Metro, where he was blunt in his criticism of Solskjaer.

Scholes said, “The conviction has to come from the coach of the way you’re going to play football. Ole has been here three years now, and we’ve come here today not really knowing what he’s going to do. That makes the recruitment almost impossible because you’re not buying players for a system.

“Look at Pep; he’ll buy players for a system. He brought Grealish this year for his system; he brought Mahrez in for his system. Jurgen Klopp brings Diogo Jota in as another forward for his system. We are bringing players in and trying to shoehorn them into positions.

“Three years down the line, you can see the evidence on the pitch; today and two weeks ago, we are a long way off. I do think we’ve got a group of good players, but Ole has to convince everyone that he is the right man to find the right formation for this team.

“Stop messing about changing it for everyone else. He’s got to now have a conviction; whatever it is, I don’t care, just have that conviction. I said before the 3-5-2 doesn’t suit the players in the team. Wan-Bissaka is useless on the ball, brilliant defender, but useless on the ball at right-back.

“Three centre halves today, none of them that good on the ball. Ole has got to find a way and it’s job by the way. There’s a squad of players there that could be OK.”
