Paul Scholes hits out at Erik ten Hag, slams midfield department

Paul Scholes believes Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are miles behind Liverpool in the midfield department.

Manchester United have once again made a poor start to the new season as they have lost three out of their first four matches. They suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday evening, and their former midfield star Paul Scholes has slammed Erik ten Hag for their poor performances.

Apart from taking a dig at the Dutch manager, the Manchester United legend even highlighted the fact that the Red Devils are miles behind Liverpool in terms of quality in the centre of the park.

During his post-match analysis for Premier League productions, the 49-year-old said via The Mirror, “It was a difficult afternoon, but they have to realise what they are playing against. We know United have work to do. The centre of the pitch is a big problem. I thought Liverpool were miles ahead of them.”

While the Red Devils started the new Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Fulham, they have lost their two outings since then. After going down 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion, they suffered at the hands of Liverpool last night. The Reds were, without doubt, the better team between the two, and the scoreline reflects exactly that.

Luis Diaz scored a brace in the first half, with Mohamed Salah making it three in the second while the home team failed to get even one past Alisson Becker. All three goals that the Red Devils conceded were because of their own errors, they gave the ball away in risky positions and Liverpool made them pay. Casemiro was at fault for the first two strikes, while Kobbie Maino was the one responsible for the third goal.

Will Ugarte solve Manchester United’s problems?

It was another poor performance from Erik ten Hag’s team and Manchester United legend Scholes feels they were miles behind Liverpool in terms of the midfield. Fortunately for United fans, they have already addressed that issue by signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £50.7 million.

The 23-year-old was unveiled to the Old Trafford crowd before kick-off, and he even shook hands with Scholes. Ugarte could prove to be a great addition to their squad, but it will take time before he gets going as he has not played any football since July.
