Paul Robinson believes Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson Becker will continue at Anfield despite the imminent arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Alisson Becker’s long-term future at Anfield has been a big talking point ever since Arne Slot’s Liverpool struck a deal with Valencia to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Georgian international will move to Liverpool next summer despite his imminent arrival Paul Robinson believes the Brazilian goalkeeper will continue to be the Reds’ number one for another season.
Becker to stay at Liverpool beyond 2025
While speaking on Football Insider, the former Tottenham goalkeeper said: “Mamardashvili is more than capable of taking the gloves,”
“It might take him a season to bed in, which is why I don’t think that Alisson will leave in the summer.
“Liverpool will be very, very shrewd to keep him on as not a mentor, but just to give Mamadashvili time to settle in.
“Give him an opportunity in cup games, play him in some European games as well, and get him used to being in that role of Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper. I expect Alisson to stay for another year, which is huge.”
Mamardashvili has made quite a name for himself while playing for the Spanish club. He further enhanced his reputation with a sensational Euro 2024 campaign which resulted in Liverpool pushing for his signatures.
The Reds have already signed him and he is currently on loan at Valencia and will move to Anfield next summer. While he is capable enough to be their number one from the start, Robinson feels Slot will not rush things with the 24-year-old.
Becker to continue as Liverpool’s number-one
They already have Alisson Becker in their squad who has been their number since the summer of 2018. While the Brazilian international has had a few injury concerns, he is still at the top of his game. With his contract running until the summer of 2027, the Reds won’t be in any hurry to sanction his departure.
They will look to have him around for another year not just to mentor Mamardashvili but to continue as their preferred choice in goal. In the meantime, the former Valencia goalkeeper will get time to adjust to life in England. He can get used to things at Anfield by featuring in cup games and European fixtures.
The 2026/27 might be Mamardashvili’s first season as Liverpool’s out-and-out first choice in goal. The former Tottenham shot-stopper is quite confident that Becker will stay at the Merseyside club for another season as the Georgian goalkeeper might take time to adjust to his new surroundings.
