Paul Robinson has claimed Trent Alexander-Arnold has already signed a deal with Real Madrid and decided to leave Liverpool.
There’s a lot of talk in the media about the future of Liverpool trio Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. The trio are widely expected to leave the club on Bosman deals once their contracts end in the summer, with no light in sight over extensions.
Liverpool are hoping to keep at least one or two of those beyond the summer, although there’s a different level of silence with regards to the future of Alexander-Arnold. Around January there were plenty of reports stating Liverpool were keen to keep him, while the links to Real Madrid increased at a high level.
A recent story stated that Alexander-Arnold has rejected Liverpool’s latest contract offer, which has further fueled speculation about his future. The wider expectation is that he will join Real Madrid, with more reports earlier stating the Spanish giants are closing in on a contract for the right-back.
The 26-year-old is now the favourite to join the Spanish giants over in the summer on a free transfer, with another story stating Barcelona failed with an approach for the right-back. As each week passes, Real Madrid looks like the favourites to land him on a Bosman deal.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson, through his comments on Football Insider, has made a big claim. The ex-Spurs man stated that Alexander-Arnold has already agreed on a pre-contract with Real Madrid, and has decided to leave Liverpool in the summer.
Robinson said, “The information I have is: Trent Alexander-Arnold is going to Madrid.”
“I spent time in Madrid when we covered the Real Madrid v Man City game, and speaking to sources, they’re convinced Trent signed a pre-contract in January.
“It hasn’t been made public knowledge yet, but the word in Madrid is they are 100 percent sure that he has signed a deal.
“Out of the three of them [Salah, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnodl], that one looks like it’s a done deal.
“I don’t think how Liverpool perform between now and the end of the season will have any bearing on the decisions the players make.“
As things stand, Arne Slot is staring at a testing summer window, with the Dutchman potentially looking to revamp his entire backline. Alongside the influential trio, the future of Ibrahima Konate has also come under the scanner, which could force Liverpool to spend a lot of money in the summer.
In any case, a team with the trio will have to find solutions to replace them at all costs, and it won’t be cheap. On top of that, other areas of the squad need reinforcements, including central midfield and the forward areas, which does set up Liverpool and Arne Slot for a busy, yet expensive summer window.
