Paul Merson gives stern gameplay advice to Arne Slot after Liverpool lose to Nottingham Forest

Liverpool crashed to their first Premier League defeat of the season against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and Paul Merson has an advice for Arne Slot.

Liverpool were beaten 1-0 at Anfield by Nottingham Forest, and they will be thoroughly disappointed with the result at home. Arne Slot and his charges were the firm favourites heading into the game, and a comfortable victory was expected.

However, Nottingham Forest managed to shut them out, and they picked up all three points thanks to a second-half goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi. Liverpool were quite pedestrian in their approach, and they lacked a clinical presence in front of the goal as well.

The Reds will need to up their intensity in the coming matches if they want to do well, and they will also need to improve their finishing in front of goal. Reacting to their performance, popular pundit Paul Merson has now revealed the area where there needs to be a clear improvement.

“I thought Liverpool were a bit boring,” said Merson via TBR Football. “I thought it was slow. When you watch Klopp’s team play, they break and it’s 100 miles an hour, they break so quickly. They just seemed to go through the phases. It isn’t quick enough. And unless they quicken this up, I don’t see it. I don’t see them challenging, I don’t. They have got to move it quickly. Teams in this Premier League, they get back so quickly.”

Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the country, and they will be expected to fight for trophies this season. They will look to secure Champions League qualification as well. The Reds will have to improve on their deficiencies if they want to do well against Arsenal and Manchester City this season.

It will be interesting to see if they can overcome their weaknesses in the coming weeks and bounce back strongly. The defeat against Nottingham Forest will certainly hurt them, and manager Arne Slot will disappointed with the performance of his players.

The Dutchman has been quite ruthless in his approach since arriving, and it remains to be seen whether he can help turn things around quickly. Liverpool cannot afford to drop points against these teams if they want to fight for the league title and trophies.
