Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr recently opened up about a possible move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Pape Matar Sarr has had a sensational rise in recent years. He has established himself as a key figure at Tottenham Hotspur, and his consistent performances have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs across Europe.
It’s been a tough season for Spurs, who currently sit 14th in the Premier League. Their only realistic chance of salvaging the campaign lies in the Europa League, where they face Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals.
While things haven’t gone their way, Sarr has certainly stood out with his consistent performances. The 22-year-old midfielder has featured in a total of 44 matches and has even contributed towards nine goals. He has done an equally effective job in a defensive role as well as his preferred central midfield role.
He has been the go-to man for Postecoglou in midfield, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. In a recent interview with dsports.sn, the Senegalese international was asked about the possibility of a future move to Real Madrid.
Sarr on a potential move to Los Blancos
While he did suggest that he is open to any challenge that comes his way, Sarr did make it quite clear that he is happy at Tottenham and is focused on helping them finish the season on a high.
Sarr said, “Every player dreams of climbing the ladder and playing for the biggest clubs in the world. But like I said, I’m at Tottenham, and I’m focused on this season with them. Everything that comes after that will be a bonus. I’m ready for any challenge that comes my way.”
While Real Madrid’s priority heading into the summer will be to reinforce their backline, they can certainly look at some like Sarr to add more depth to their midfield. With Luka Modrić’s future uncertain and his career nearing its end, the 22-year-old could emerge as a promising option for Los Blancos.
But as things stand, they haven’t expressed any interest in him. More importantly, Spurs have him tied to a contract that runs until 2030 and given his importance in the team, they won’t let him leave on the cheap. He will only get better with time and could eventually establish himself as one of the leaders at the North London club.
